We need proper medical facility in Littlehampton

Congratulations to the Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Emergency Floor and the chief executive, Marianne Griffiths, both shortlisted for a well-deserved national award.

This is down to first-class management.

However, on the other hand is it not time for whoever is responsible to do something practical about the lack of GPs and other medical facilities in and around Littlehampton?

The latest suggestion, I understand, is to consider the Morrisons site for a new medical centre.

This place is accessed by a dangerous roundabout and I wonder whether any thought will be given to wheelchairs, push chairs and elderly people who may not have transport?

As Dr Walsh points out, there have been broken promises over the past 12 years and how the old hospital site in Fitzalan Road is still vacant.

It could so easily be used, centrally placed and accessible to everyone including by public transport.

Why can’t we have a proper facility here with medical services as required plus, perhaps ten beds for convalescence?

After all Arundel, Bognor and Rustington have medical provision of a sort.

Simon Stevens, the NHS’s chief executive says that cottage hospitals are the way forward.

When will some of these powerful politicians put aside their dogma, internal squabbling and short-termism and genuinely look for a c-ooperative way to run this great country of ours?

In the final analysis, whichever party is in power, we face leaving Europe, a destabilised Middle East, immigration, global warming and the possibility of revolution driven by the less desirable aspects of the internet.
