Why was hospital built on lake?

YES, we have had enough rain to float the Queen Mary and I’m sorry that folks were inconvenienced by the temporary closure of Worthing Hospital because of the flooding.

That question has to be asked, though – why, oh why, was planning permission ever given to build the extension to the hospital on top of what was once a lake?

I’m surely not the only person who remembers what Homefield Park looked like in the 50s?
