Worthing Thunder stat men get Olympic call
Worthing basketball statisticians Owen Peck, Alan Sweetman-Hicks, Ross Hodges and Frank Gainsbury
FOUR basketball statisticians from Worthing will all be involved in either the Olympic or Paralympic games in London later this year.
Alan Sweetman-Hicks will be involved in both games, Worthing Thunder chairman Frank Gainsbury and Owen Peck will both be involved in the Olympics and Ross Hodges will be involved in the Paralympics.
The quartet found out about their involvement at the end of January and Sweetman-Hicks said: “We’re all looking forward to it and it’s going to be great.
“It’s nice to have it all agreed now and we all can’t wait.”
They will all act as technical officials, with 24 people taking on those roles for each games.
During the Olympics, Sweetman-Hicks, Gainsbury and Peck will be provided with hotel accommodation, while Sweetman-Hicks and Hodges will stay in the Athletes Village for the Paralympics.
All four had been on training courses in April and June last year, before attending a London Prepares basketball event in July. They also had another seminar in December before finding out which roles they had been given in January.
