FORMER Sussex County Cricket Club captain Chris Adams has joined Chippingdale as a coach for the upcoming season.
Chipps, who will play in West Sussex Invitation League Division 2 this year, will have Adams on hand to help the club’s first team players at their net sessions on Tuesday evenings.
Over the last few years, England under-19 and Sussex ladies’ cricketer Hannah Phelps has helped out with Chipps’ ladies team and Sussex coach Mark Robinson has helped out with the club’s girls’ team.
Adams, who played five Test matches for England, will help coach Chipps’ first team and the club have drawn up a list of 15 players who will who be in the first team frame and will benefit from the coaching.
Team secretary Matt Bourne said: “This is a massive coup for the club and we are extremely fortunate to be able to procure Chris’ services before he got snapped up elsewhere.
“It was an extremely difficult list to draw up and took many many hours of discussion. However, we have now made that decision and the 15 players have been advised. This doesn’t mean that the rest of the club will miss out, though. Chris has been very open about sharing the knowledge, so some of Chipps’ club coaches will be able to observe and will then be able to disseminate the information through to the other teams, all the way down through to the colts.
“Naturally, there will be some disappointment for those not in the final 15 but we are planning for the long term and this is not necessarily a one-off as we will be looking to build on this platform ready for the 2015 season.”
