ENGLAND women’s cricket team suffered a nail-biting last-ball defeat against the West Indies in their final T20 series match at Arundel Castle on Sunday.

The West Indies prevented the England side from registering a clean sweep in the series and the tourists secured a dramatic consolation win after having lost all of the other four matches.

The tourists claimed a three-wicket victory on the last ball of the match after England posted 139-7 from their 20 overs, in which Sarah Taylor (34) continued her fine form, Katherine Brunt top scored with 35 and Danielle Hazell hit a maximum on the way to 18 not-out off eight balls.

After losing early wickets, Deandra Dottin turned things around for the West Indies clearing the ropes on five occasions as she hit 62 off 34 balls.

The England bowlers continued to exert the pressure in the final overs, forcing West Indies to score off the last ball to secure victory as they finished on 140-7.

A number of spectators relished the opportunity to watch the women’s national side in the picturesque ground of the Arundel Castle club and were blessed by the weather as well as a hugely entertaining game.

Sussex County Cricket Club’s wicketkeeper and batter Sarah Taylor featured for England as did fellow county players Holly Colvin and Arran Brindle.

England Women flew out to Sri Lanka yesterday (Wednesday) for the ICC World T20 and will play their first match of the competition against Pakistan in Galle, on Thursday, September 27.
