WORTHING Football Club secured their first league win of the season on Tuesday as Curtis Gayler netted the only goal at Carshalton Athletic.
Rebels had started the campaign with two losses and a draw but Gayler’s strike in the 74th minute gave them all three points.
Worthing first-team coach Jon Meeney spoke of his delight at the win and said: “It was really pleasing to get the victory.
“We knew travelling to Carshalton would not be easy as they were relegated from the league above last year.
“But tactically we were very well organised, we showed great discipline and the players showed a great work ethic.
“The sides were well matched and I knew it was going to take a moment of brilliance or an error to break the deadlock and, fortunately, Curtis produced a moment of brilliance.”
The first half was a tight affair, with few chances at either end.
Worthing improved in the second period and got the winner on 74 minutes when Gayler fired home a stunning 25-yard strike.
Worthing travel to East Grinstead on Saturday (3pm), before they host Horsham on Monday (3pm) at Woodside Road.
