Rebels put four past Sittingbourne
WORTHING Football Club got back in action with a 4-1 win over Sittingbourne this afternoon (Saturday).
Rebels led 3-0 at half-time by which stage the Ryman League Division 1 South was pretty much a formality, as Worthing kept up their play-off chase.
Steve Metcalf slotted home the opener after 10 minutes from close range, and fellow defender Matt Hurley nodded home Darren Budd’s deep cross to double the lead 10 minutes later.
Ryan McBride, on his return from a seven-match suspension, was next to notch as he was picked out by Paul Kennett’s lofted cross at the far post where he finished with aplomb four minutes later, with a rout looking likely.
Despite a number of chances, however, they failed to punish the visitors further before the break.
Rebels started well again after half-time, but a couple of Sittingbourne substitutions gave them a spark and they picked up halfway through the second period.
But Tom Lawley’s superb solo goal after a mazy run made it 4-0 on 77 minutes, and although Richard Atkins pulled one back for Sittingbourne four minutes later after a rare mistake from Alan Mansfield, they didn’t threaten further.
