Almost the entire sporting programme across the county has been decimated by the snow, ice and freezing conditions in the past week.
The inclement weather has put paid to all outdoor sport with pitches left covered in up to six inches of snow, which fell on Friday and throughout the weekend.
Indoor sports and fixtures were also affected owing to health and safety reasons and teams unable to travel.
Midweek fixtures also fell foul of the weather, with temperatures struggling to get above freezing.
Worthing Rugby Club were confident of getting their pitch cleared ahead of their National 2 South clash with Lydney, with a pitch inspection scheduled at 7.30am on Saturday morning.
But, efforts to move the snow were halted after the visiting team were unable to travel, with the game called off on Friday.
Shoreham and Littlehampton’s games in the Sussex Intermediate League were also off.
The Ryman League suffered blanket postponements, locally Worthing Football Club’s home match against Walton & Hersham was the victim.
Football wise, there was no action across any of the Sussex County, Worthing, West Sussex or Sunday leagues.
Hockey was also left out in the cold as St Andrew’s and The Littlehampton Academy pitches were unplayable, while Worthing Hockey Club’s away fixture at Kings & Alleyns in the Kent/Sussex Regional League and their ladies match at Eastbourne were both off.
Anyone hedging their bets on getting a sporting fix in the warm with the basketball on Saturday night was also left disappointed.
Worthing Thunder’s home EBL clash with Brixton Topcats was postponed owing to the away team unable to travel.
It is unlikely this weekend will see a full programme of sport, either, with those pitches that have thawed and the snow melted, looking likely to be waterlogged.
