WORTHING Football Club manager Adam Hinshelwood is confident that the majority of last season’s squad will return to Woodside Road for the upcoming campaign.
A number of players have confirmed to Rebels’ boss that they will be in attendance when the club begin pre-season training next week and just striker George Gaskin and midfielder Lee Carey are departing.
Gaskin is set to return to County League side Littlehampton and Carey has joined Ryman League Premier Division side Tonbridge Angels.
However, Jack Fagan, Will Hendon, Corey Heath, Matt Hurley, Matt Piper, Brannon O’Neill, George Hayward, Lloyd Dawes, Harvey Sparks and Ben Pope have all said to Hinshelwood they will return.
Hinshelwood is also hopeful that Connor Cody, Mark Knee, Alex Parsons and Omar Bugiel will still be with the Ryman League South Division club next season.
He said: “The vast proportion of last season’s squad have all said they’ll come back, which is really positive.
“It gives us a good basis to build a squad and there’s still a couple who I need to talk to as well.
“With the under-21 squad next season as well, it will be good for all the young lads coming through.
“I’ll keep in contact with George Gaskin, too, as he’d prefer to play locally at the moment owing to personal reasons, while Lee is a Ryman Premier Division midfielder anyway and it’s a good move for him.
“But, all in all, I’m quite happy with where we’re at and we’ll hopefully have a couple of players signing as well.”
Rebels have already confirmed they will host Brighton & Hove Albion’s development squad on August 2 and they will also play pre-season friendlies away to AFC Portchester and Arundel.
Other friendly matches are still to be finalised and Hinshelwood said: “There’s a big Brighton fanbase in Worthing so, hopefully, they’ll all come out to watch the game.
“We’ve also agreed the two away games and we’re pretty close to finalising the other games, too.”
