A mix of under-18 and development players from the Premier League club were due at Woodside Road for Rebels’ first pre-season match at the weekend, but the visitors have pulled out.
Worthing joint manager Lee Brace was contacted by a Palace official earlier this week explaining that they would have to cancel the fixture.
A knock-on effect after the Palace first team called on a number of under-21s to attend a pre-season tour has left the visitors short of experienced numbers to turn out.
Brace said: “I did ask them to reconsider, but I respect their decision. I am sorry to all of the local supporters from both teams that we could not make the game possible.
“I am pleased to announce that we will have a fixture this coming Saturday (13th July) and welcome our neighbours from Lancing FC for a 3pm kick-off.”
The Palace friendly was arranged after Brighton & Hove Albion omitted Rebels from their friendly schedule, ahead of their Championship campaign.
WORTHING Football Club’s opening pre-season friendly against a Crystal Palace XI on Saturday has been cancelled.
