WORTHING Football Club played out a scoreless draw with Merstham in Ryman League South Division this evening.
Chances were few and far between throughout the match, with a point each the fair result.
The first opportunity came on 16 minutes when Merstham’s Tommy Hutchings had a 25-yard effort pushed away by Rebels keeper Jack Fagan after Ashley Robinson’s defence-splitting pass.
Two minutes later, Robinson found himself in space but could only head Sam Tucknott’s right-wing cross wide of the far post.
Within a minute, Rebels had their first chance but George Gaskin side-footed his shot into the legs of Merstham keeper Brannon Daly from 16 yards.
Worthing’s Brannon O’Neill had a fierce shot parried away by Daly on 37 minutes, after a free kick was cut back, in the last real action of the first half.
Chances continued to be at a premium in the second period. Rebels’ Omar Bugiel had a shot blocked after he barged his way through on 69 minutes, before Connor Cody headed the resulting corner just over at the back post.
O’Neill then curled a free kick just wide after Bugiel had been fouled 25 yards out, before Lee Carey hit a free kick from a similar distance wide on 80 minutes.
Fagan kept out a low drilled effort from Taurean Roberts on 84 minutes, before Rebels’ defence blocked a couple of late Merstham shots to ensure the game finished scoreless.
