WORTHING Football Club’s FA Cup dream was ended by Blue Square South side Staines Town at Woodside Road this afternoon (Saturday).
The visitors grabbed two late goals to book their place in the fourth qualifying round and seal £7,500 prize money in a 2-0 victory.
Rebels had matched their opponents for the first 80 minutes and Worthing manager Chris White felt his side edged the match.
He said: “I am very, very disappointed. I thought, apart from maybe the first ten minutes, we were the better side out there, I can’t believe we’ve lost it.”
Goals from substitutes Marc Charles-Smith and Howard Newton in the 87th and then 90th minute ended Rebels’ hope, while Jamie Brotherton went closest at the other end in the second half as his lobbed effort went just wide of the post shortly after the break.
