Goals in either half from Jazz Rance and Hayden Hunter ensured Worthing progressed to the delight of Rebels boss Bob Paine.

He said: “Considering we haven’t played for five weeks, this was an excellent performance by our young players.

“We defended well and coped very well with their physicality.

“We also played some good football at times which was difficult in the conditions.

“It’s a fine achievement to have reached the semi-finals of this competition.”

Rebels were in control throughout the clash with the centre-half pairing of Tom Lyne and Josh Etherington particualrly impressive.

Worthing’s opener came after 27 minutes when Rance curled a shot into the top corner from 25 yards.

Rebels doubled their lead eight minutes into the second half when Etherington’s free kick was only half cleared and Hunter hammered home from 20 yards.

Worthing then saw out the game comfortably and had two late penalty appeals waved away, when Matt Isaacs and then Rance went down.

Rebels will meet Rottingdean Village or Haywards Heath Reserves in the semi-finals.

WORTHING: Cook; Parazo, Isaacs, Gilbertson, Lyne, Etherington, Hunter, Barnes, Rance, Hartley, Herbert. Subs: Brown (Barnes), Hardman (Hunter), Witten.
