WORTHING United Football Club secured promotion to the County League Division 1 with a 4-0 home success over Bexhill United this afternoon.

Goals from Sam Blundell, Paul Elliott, Wayne Joseph and Mark O’Regan were enough to ensure the Mavericks opened up a 12 point lead at the top of Division 2.

United’s next aim will to clinch the title and they need just one point from their remaining three matches to do so.

The home side went in front on 17 minutes as Jacob Schilt’s through ball found Sam Blundell and he coolly slotted into the net.

Wayne Joseph’s free-kick found Paul Elliott who toe poked home 18 minutes later to give United a two-goal lead.

The Mavericks were awarded a penalty on 52 minutes when Chris Cumming handled in the area.

Joseph stepped up and crashed home the resulting spot-kick.

The Mavericks then rounded off an emphatic victory as a minute from time substitute Mark O’Regan beat two defenders before rifling a shot into the top corner.
