Great Britain Women’s hockey team qualified for the Olympic quarter-final when they beat Argentina 3-2 in Rio last night.
East Grinstead Hockey Club player Sophie Bray scored their winning goal in the 37th minute.
Bray is one of three Grinstead players in the squad, the others being Laura Unsworth and reserve keeper Kirsty Mackay.
West Chiltington-based Maddie Hinch is their first choice keeper and helped seal the win at the end when Argentina launched a late assault.
GB raced into a dominant 3-0 lead when Helen Richardson-Walsh produced two accomplished goals which was added to by Bray’s invaluable strike at the end of a goalmouth scramble.
But Argentina fought back with two goals in 64 seconds scored by Florencia Habif to set-up an exciting finish.
GB missed a chance to add a fourth goal when Richardson-Walsh, who was trying for a hat-trick, had a penalty saved by keeper Belen Succi.
Argentina threw everything into their attack for the last few minutes but GB held out for victory.
They lead their group with three wins out of three after beating Australia 2-1 and India 3-0.
Their next match is against Japan on Friday, August 12 at 12.30pm.
