WORTHING Rowing Club hosted two regatta events over the weekend as the first full events of the season got underway.

An open event took place on Saturday, before it was the Worthing Town Regatta on Sunday as Worthing enjoyed success on both days – with four wins on Saturday and three on Sunday.

The club’s ladies junior four crews are set for an exciting season as the B crew pushed the A crew into second place on Saturday, before the A team won on Sunday, with the B crew second.

The novice men crews finished first and second on Saturday, before second and third place finishes on Sunday.

The men’s veteran 40-plus crew claimed victories on both days, while the ladies junior pair won their race on Saturday.

The ladies senior pairs teams finished second and fourth on Saturday, with the ladies senior four crews placing third and fourth.

The ladies novice four crew rowed to a fourth-placed finish on Saturday, before they were third on Sunday.

There are now nine more regattas to come, before the season concludes at the South Coast Championships in Bideford on September 8.

Worthing club captain Martin Holden said: “Everything went very well, although it was the coldest summer regatta that I’ve ever been part of in my 34 years of rowing.

“That made it quite tough but the rowing conditions were as good as you could get.

“We’ve got nine more regattas to come between now and the end of July, before the South Coast Championships and, on the basis of the weekend, hopefully we’ll have some wins there.”
