Arthur touched down Raiders’ second try in the 26-22 win at home to London Irish Wild Geese as a planned retirement went out of the window.

He said: “The plan was to retire as the body was starting to let me down. I turned 37 a couple of weeks ago and the plan was to finish playing but unfortunately due to injuries to other players I needed to play.

“I loved it and it was great to be back but I’m not sure how I’ll be feeling tomorrow, however I really enjoyed it.

“What I’ve said is I’ll always be available, the plan is not to play me as the young guys have got to come on through but if I’m needed, I’ll play, although hopefully I won’t be needed too much.”

Arthur added Saturday’s win was crucial for the side and now hopes they will kick on. He said: “Quietly, we knew how important today’s game was. We’d had a poor run but we were back at home against a team one place below us.

“We needed to stop the dip in form that we’d had, so it was a very important win.

“We need to get some consistency now and to play to our full potential. When we play well and when we play to the patterns we have in place, we’re a good side and a match for anyone.

“We’ve got to build on this and let’s set our sights on the top half and see where we go.

“It’s a fantastic win but it means nothing now if we don’t push on next week. Going to Henley is a really tough ask but we have to build on today.”
