WORTHING Raiders Rugby Club lost their opening game of the National 2 South season 31-18 away to Clifton this afternoon.

Worthing led 6-0 through two penalties, before Clifton responded with two penalties of their own to level the game at 6-6.

Elliott Luke touched down Raiders’ first try, with Matt McLean converting, before the hosts quickly responded with an unconverted try.

Clifton missed a penalty, before McLean touched down to give Worthing a 18-11 lead at half-time.

A penalty made the score 18-14, before Clifton had two players sinbinned and were reduced to 13.

Worthing then had Loewy Simmons sinbinned and when Clifton returned to full strength, a converted try took them 24-18 ahead.

The hosts then added another converted try as Kieron Dawson’s Raiders side made a losing start to the new campaign.
