IT has been a busy few days at Steyning Grammar School, with students attending a special enterprise day and the school receiving a prestigious award.
Youngsters brushed up on their business skills with the enterprise day on Wednesday (June 3).

Designed to introduce the students to the concept of enterprise and the skills needed to be enterprising, the day took place during the year-10 group's two weeks of work experience.

Teacher Jeanette Masters, the school's enterprise co-ordinator, said: "Enterprise education focuses on developing the knowledge, understanding and confidence in students to assist them in developing personal skills such as innovation, creativity and risk management which will assist them when they leave full-time education and enter the world of business."

Young Enterprise

The day was organised by the Young Enterprise Organisation, which recruited local business people and members of the community to work with the students.

The students were placed into teams and set up, organised and ran their own company throughout the day.

Issues included starting and running a company, teamwork, recruitment, investment and how a business affected the society it operated within.

At the end of the day, students had the opportunity to question the leaders of each group on their experiences in running their companies.

High performance

And this week, Steyning Grammar was given a fourth award from the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust.

It means the following achievements have been officially recognised: high performance in GCSE examinations, success in adding value, ranked among the most improved specialist schools and academies, and an acknowledgment that the school continues to enjoy high-performing specialist school status.
