Arts and Craft in Action (the Chichester Experience) is back for its second year, on Sunday, October 19 at Chichester’s Westgate Centre.

Organised by the Rotary Club of Chichester, it brings together more than 50 local invited artists and craftsmen demonstrating their own work (more details www.arts-and-craft-in-action.org.uk).

The day opens with a special preview event from 10am to 11am, for which tickets are £10 and must be bought in advance. Public admission is from

11am to 4pm; tickets £5, £3 students and groups available on the door. All proceeds to local charities.

Organiser Richard Plowman said the attraction would be once again the chance to experience art close up and ask questions of the artists, illustrators, sculptors, potters and ceramicists, wood carvers and wood turners, embroiderers, fabric workers, quilters, jewellers and glass workers demonstrating their own work.

“The range is fantastic. Rather than 20 watercolourists, we were wanting examples of all sorts of things. We have got a wonderful paper sculptor; we have got a silversmith this time which is new; and we have people working in glass and ceramics.

“We have chosen the Westgate Centre because of the size. One of the things that was good about last year was that people had the chance to stand back and enjoy the works as well as chatting to the artists.

“We hope that this will be an annual event. Last year, we were just trying it out, trying to come up with something special and unique, and we were pleased with the way it went. The concept is that the artists and craftsmen actually demonstrate their work and the public are free to ask questions.

“Internationally-renowned sculptor Philip Jackson will be again opening the show at a special preview, and he has also agreed to be our patron which is a wonderful endorsement for the show. New this year will be a huge live mural being painted on the day by a team of artists led by Fatima Pantoja.

“There will also be music played by the talented quartet of saxophonists, Autumn Reeds. As one visitor pout it, it is like the Chichester Art trail all under one roof!”
