TRAILS detailing the history of Worthing will be launched next year.
The project is being co-ordinated by historian Chris Hare, thanks to a £47,500 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
An open meeting will be held this Saturday, at which people can suggest places that should be on the trails, and also register their interest to become a guide.
Chris said: “There is a lot to be done to research the trails, so we will meet every month to help us reveal all the wonderful and unexpected aspects of our town’s heritage.
“Once written, the heritage trails will be published as leaflets, for people who are happy to tour themselves around.
“But we will also be training up guides, to talk people through the trails, for those that prefer that, and hope they will be up and running by spring.”
Some of the features of the trails could be the town’s oldest buildings, its smuggling history, the beauty of the ancient downland, the coastline and modern Worthing.
The first meeting is at Worthing Library Lecture Theatre on Saturday, from 11am to 12.30pm.
