CONGRATULATIONS are due to the Rotary Clubs of Worthing for the wonderful carnival on August bank holiday Monday which, despite the inclement weather, was a joy to see.
Also to the Worthing Herald for your excellent photo coverage of the event.

As a Worthing resident since long before the first carnival, I have watched the parade go through many ups and downs over the years and it was heartening to see an appar
ent revival of interest in participation this year with so many youngsters taking part.

Congratulations to all of the entrants, but particularly uplifting was the entry from West Tarring Boys' Club with their Red Barrows entry and a dozen young boys steadfastly pushing their wheelbarrows along the seafront despite the wind and the rain and still managing to entertain the crowd with their happy, smiling faces.

I must declare a vested interest as, sadly, I am old enough to be able to claim I was one of the original club members back in 1939 as a mere lad of eight years of age.

Back then, West Tarring Boys' Club was a wonderful asset to the area, just as it appears to be today.

Having read of the recent vandalism in Tarring Park to the newly-installed play equipment, it was good to see that the club still shines like a beacon.

I have, since the carnival, discovered the boys' club website at www.wtypc.org and would urge fellow Worthing residents to take a look at the website and bring a smile to their faces in seeing how many of Worthing's youngsters spend their time.
