I AM writing in response to articles that have been published in your paper in the last two weeks regarding complaints about the upkeep of Durrington Cemetery.
I was highly surprised to read these comments complaining of the state of the graves of their loved ones.
I have been visiting this cemetery every day for the last 12 years to tend the grave of my husband.
During this time, I have got to know
the gentlemen responsible for the general up keep and maintenance of the area.
They have always been extremely helpful and friendly.
If I have ever needed assistance with lifting any item or anything at all, nothing is too much trouble.
They are responsible for such a vast area and do their very best to keep the cemetery neat and tidy, whilst assisting many visitors with their individual requests.
There are not many people left in this town so willing to help others, and do so with such a kind heart.
I find the negative comments your readers have made completely uncalled for.
If they had asked for assistance they would have received it.
At the end of the day, they can only care for the overall area with the time and resources they have available, and I find it hard to understand how people can criticise them for doing their very best.
We all have to take a certain amount of responsibility to tend to the individual graves of our loved ones if we want them to look their very best and therefore any blame of lack of maintenance of these areas must lie with ourselves.
I personally feel that the cemetery is a very peaceful, pleasant, well-kept place to be where I get such comfort being able to be close to those I have lost.
I hope you can convey my feelings to your readers, and allow some positive feedback to reach other readers who have loved ones in this special resting place.
