THIS letter follows an altercation when I challenged a young cyclist who was riding illegally and aggressively down the alleyway connecting Tower Road and Penstone Park, Lancing.
Having witnessed so many of these directionless youths showing complete disregard for the rules of the road and their community in this particular area, I stood in front of the cyclist, blocking his path, and pointed to the sign which indicated that
cycling was not allowed.

Typically, the youth spurted abuse in my direction and had the audacity to threaten that he would be telephoning the police to accuse me of assault.

I responded by asking him why he was deliberately flouting the rules of his community and why he did not seemingly care about his community.

Typically, more inarticulate abuse followed.

As the situation developed, a middle-aged man appeared at the entrance of the alleyway and he immediately supported the youth, advising me that "everyone does it and no one cares about it".

The youth sped off, reeling off a list of unoriginal obscenities.

This episode, for me, sums up all that is wrong with life in the UK today.

Lancing and the UK are full of these hapless, bored, inarticulate youths who have no regard for their own community, let alone national or global problems, and who have terrorised the older generations into submission.

There are some good youngsters out there, I know that, but until we can gain the desire to claim back our country and learn to control many of these youngsters, who are, frankly, terrorising communities, we have no hope of securing a peaceful and prosperous future for our community.

I am only in my mid-thirties, so I am still aware of the frustrations and temptations of youth. But the attitude of the current generation is, frankly, frightening.

If the behaviour of these adolescents continues to deteriorate, the dynamic, prosperous people who have flocked to the region in recent years will flee as fast as they arrived.

Peter Emery
Lancing
