CONCERNING the letter from Mrs Petrie (Herald last week), I also was "slapped" with a parking fine of £25 because I had parked in Shelley Road (40p for four hours) as opposed to the ticket I bought from the nearest machine in Byron Road (£1.60 for 2 hours).
This was despite actually paying over the amount for the zone where my car was parked (50p as I didn't have 40p in change) and returning to my car well within the time limit.
After having disputed the fine in the first instance I was told that
it is the motorist's responsibility to check the signage.
One wonders how much money is being made by these honest mistakes.
I would also like to note that twice since, when I have purchased tickets from the "right" machines, the ticket information has been wildly inaccurate, stating either the wrong date and/or time!
