I WAS just reading your letters pages and saw the one about the free bus passes and the use of these at 9.30am instead of 9.
May I take this opportunity to comment on this and to explain, as a bus driver myself, I disagree with the comment that buses are too full at 9.30 because the people of Littlehampton get on the bus at 9am and by the time it arrives in Worthing ther
e's no room.

When the bus passes were 9am in the Worthing area, once the clock struck 9 the buses were full after a few stops.

The actual problem is the sheer amount of free bus pass holders who travel one or two stops, bearing in mind how close the stops are to each other.

As I see day in, day out, it's not the free pass holders who suffer, it's the paying customers.

Time after time, I see these paying customers left at bus stops as there is no room for them all because someone with a free pass wants to go to the next stop.

Let's bear in mind it's not only the old people who have these passes. There are young people as well, even youngsters who are at college.

I think a lot of the time these passes are just being abused, so I think it's wrong that people are complaining about the time they can use their passes, and they should appreciate that they get free travel and 9.30am is not exactly the end of the world.
