EVERY summer in and around Worthing, something very special takes place.
For over 30 years now, the Chanctonbury Community Playscheme has been offering a taste of fun and happiness to local children who don't have the same freedom as most youngsters.
No matter how severe their disability, children from the Worthing dis
trict are welcome to take part.
The playscheme is unique as it also offers the option of transport from home to the playscheme venue.
It is of the community and for the community.
As a parent, I've been involved with the CCPS for many years.
To witness the joy on the children's faces as they arrive each morning would gladden the heart of the most ardent cynic.
All this is made possible by the goodwill and generosity of the organisers, who fund-raise throughout the year, never knowing if there willl be enough in the piggy bank for the next playscheme.
But special thanks must go to the young volunteers.
Students from local secondary schools give up part of their precious summer holidays to put the smile on those special faces.
Without them, the play scheme would not exist.
They are cheerful, generous and polite.
Anyone wondering what the youth of today is coming to should look no further than the Chanctonbury Community Playscheme.
