School system is so stupid

AS a parent, I have just gone through the process of choosing a place for a child at middle school, as a result of which I will soon have two children at two different middle schools.
My question is: why? What is the point? Why have such a stupid system in the first place? My relatives in Kent can't get their heads round it.

If it is too complicated for Worthing to follow the example of Adur and fall into line with most of the rest of the country in returning to a primary system, surely it is not too hard to set-up a proper "feeder" system whereby pupils at a first school are given automatic admission to a designated middle school.

The maths seem quite simple. Just add up the number of Year 3 classes in each first school, assume a total of 30 in each, add them together, with a few extra for good measure, and make sure the middle school has enough places for take them.

I am sure this would be preferred by the vast majority of stressed-out parents, not to mention their children, and probably teachers as well, and think of the administration it would save.

I have to go through it all again next year when my daughter goes to high school. No wonder I'm turning grey.
