I COULDN'T agree more with Mrs Susan Brown. (Cycle lane letter, last week).
Click here to read the original letter.

I am a mum with three very young children and I find it impossible to enjoy a walk al
ong the seafront from Ham Road to Splash Point.

Kids naturally gravitate towards the beach and I am constantly having to pull them back.

On Saturday there was almost a head-on collision between a speeding cyclist and a lady carrying hot drinks from the café to the decked area on the beach.

He seemed to be happy to raise his hand but not use his brakes or even get off.

I am a keen cyclist myself and when I wish to get into town quickly I will cycle on the main road.

Unfortunately, SOME cyclists use the cycle path in busy times at full pelt with no awareness of pedestrians.

I have even been shouted at because one of my children has wandered into the path.

I cannot blame the cyclists that much as some obviously think they have a right now to cycle fast because it is a cycle path (there is nothing to say they cannot).

Why, oh why, was the cycle path not put close to road or at least behind the chalets.

I do not agree in this litigation society we have now, but I would not hesitate to sue the council if one of my children was injured.

Hey lady!
It's a CYCLE LANE got that?
You seem to think it will be someone else's fault if your kids are hit by a bike do you?
It is clearly signed & marked as a CYCLE LANE, so anyone involved in a collision has themselves to blame.
When you were at school, did you get the green cross code rammed down your throat every other day?
Well, it follows that those rules apply to the CYCLE LANE too.
If people cannot be bothered to look where they are going, then it's their own stupid fault & no-one else's.
Would you sue the local council if (& I seriously hope it doesn't happen) your child runs into the main road & is hit by a car? Simply because they had the ill thought out plan to put a ROAD right next to the beach?
I think not.
So stop your whining & teach your kids how to look left & right before crossing the CYCLE LANE before they cause an accident.
& while I'm on this, a lot of money is paid (by the voting public I guess) to make these "safe havens" for CYCLISTS & yet you choose to use the road instead?
What a waste of money.
