I HAVE just read the letter (Letters, last week) entitled "What we really think of Worthing".
Click here to read the original letter.

Having lived most of my 60 odd years in and around Worthing,
I must agree with the
writer.

I have the unlucky drive all week to Lancing, with the wonderful road layout along the main coast road.

This is also along a dull and uninspiring sea front.

All I see each day is piles of black bags across the pavements, rough sleepers in the shelters and tatty, old and tired hotels.

Then I pass the Aquarena.

Again a masterpiece of council planning.

When it was built, it was too small.

Now they are looking for a new site.

Why not knock down the existing building, taking-in the whole site, including the padling and boating pool and sea front.

Then build a centre that would place Worthing on the map.

But most probably they will come up with a site that no-one can reach without a car, then put-in no car spaces unless they are run by NCP,
in a position that no one wants.

As the letter writer said, the town centre is tatty, dirty and empty.

But like the Worthing bypass, I do not expect any change in my lifetime.

Why? Because Worthing is stuck in the 1960s, with a council that has a village-type mindset.
