I WRITE on behalf of the Durrington Festival committee to just say a big thank you to everyone who helped make this year's such an outstanding success.
The festival is now in its 18th year but continues to go from strength to strength, with each year building on the success of previous years.

We, as a committee, continue to be staggered by the support we receive from both the community and autho
rities, for which we are extremely grateful.

This year's festival week included a host of events put on by many different organisations, which demonstrated as ever the variety and diversity of what goes on within the community of Durrington.

This all builds up to Durrington's Big Day, this year on June 13, with its Back to the '80s themed village fayre and carnival procession, followed by a stunning firework display on Pond Lane Park, which proved a fitting finale to the day.

We were once again blessed by superb weather, which of course helped, but to see so many people out and clearly enjoying themselves was a wonderful sight.

The comments in last week's Herald seemed to suggest it was one of the best festivals ever and the comments we have received certainly reflect this view.

However, this was only possible due to the many hours of work put in by the various groups and organisations who took part and, of course, by everyone who came out and supported what was going on.

We would also like to thank all our sponsors, and all the other people and organisations who helped, without whose support the event would not have been possible.

The festival is and has always been an event for the people and community of Durrington and this year's event was once again a wonderful reflection of the community as a whole, and we believe shows what Durrington is really all about.

It just remains to say – see you all again next year!

Peter Bloxham
chairman
Durrington Festival
committee
