WHY is it so hard to get a job in Worthing?
Although I have over 20 years' experience of sales/admin/customer services, and have been on courses, etc., I cannot even get to that interview stage.

Is it my age or is it because I am a mum returning to work?

It has been a bit of a cult
ure shock as up to three years ago I lived in London, then Surrey, and never have been out of work.

I would love to hear from anyone who may have experienced the same to boost my confidence as it's running low now.

All companies want now is school leavers. Is this the way of life now, or just Worthing?

If anyone can tell me I would be so, so happy!

letdown badly,

So you can't find a job in Worthing Mandy. Well keep trying and take the first job you get even if it is only a temporary position, because in early 2009 over 600 people all with the same job requirements as yourself will be flooding Worthings job market thanks to Norwich Union abandoning Worthing. And as for Norwich Unions promise to our council to help all staff find jobs, don't make me laugh! All they are doing is helping us all find a place in Worthings growing dole queue. So Mandy get your C.V. Out there quickly and best of luck.

Ex Worthing Worker,

You mention that all company's want is school leavers. I think an ideal candidate for an average Worthing company is a school leaver, still living with their parents & therefore able to live on the pathetically low wage these companies are willing to pay. So the reason they don't want you is simply they are unwilling to pay a decent wage. You'll probably have to consider commuting on the train to Brighton or Crawley as to drive anywhere from Worthing is a major hassle due to the state of the roads & constant traffic delays. If your confidence is running low you may be getting near to an ideal employee for one of the many low wage/high workload company's in the area but be prepared to work full time for about 12k a year.
Lets face it most people in Worthing are old so only really work to stop themself being bored but if your looking for a proper job to pay for rent/a mortgage it's just not going to happen. I notice a high percentage of the Worthing youngster's are on the dole popping out babies for the council's money but I guess this line of 'work' isn't really going to appeal. Having sampled life in the Worthing work culture I can see why the towns are so full of young people of working age during the week. They simply realise a life on the dole is an easier option.
