IT is with regret that I see Worthing Borough Council will be supporting Armed Forces Day.
Each year in the town, we come together to remember those who fell in past conflicts and spare a thought for those still serving overseas.
Why do we now have to participate in celebrating our armed forces, troops who throughout history have invade
d and occupied lands not belonging to them and bringing suffering to their inhabitants?
Should we really be glorifying those who carry guns while at the same time trying to educate the young that guns and violence is not the way to live in a civilised society?
After the flag has been lowered at the end of the week, perhaps they will hoist the flag of peace.
With peace, we wouldn't have a need to celebrate our forces.
