BOWLING clubs around Worthing will be wondering if the day will ever come when they might produce a teenaged national champion.
Rugby's Jamie-Lea Winch lifted the women's 25-and-under singles title at the age of 17 today (July 31) at Victoria Park, Royal Leamington Spa.
With Worthing area clubs struggling to recruit or discover women of any age, she is a student, who started bowling when she was nine years old, and she plays for Warwickshire's Bilton BC.
She clinched the title with a 2-0 sets victory over Somerset's Stefanie Branfield in the final. This followed her win in the semi-final against Derbyshire's Amie Shepperson by the same scoreline.
Jamie-Lea will now go forward to represent England in the 2009 British Isles Junior Championships. And she will be bidding for more success when she competes in the National Pairs Championship with Bilton BC club mate Lesley Wilson.
