VOTERS sympathised with the batsman in our latest vote from the world of club cricke.
Broadwater CC had set Southwater 244 to win their Sussex Invitation League Sunday Cup quarter-final. At 47 for one, Southwater's Johann Brouwer and Matt Lacey tried a quick single.
Broadwater's Joe Owen fielded but his throw back in was off targe
t. However, it hit Lacey's bat, diverted onto the stumps towards which he was running, there was an appeal and, comfortably out of his ground, and he was given out.
Acting Broadwater captain, former multi-championship-winning Findon skipper Nigel Waller did not call Lacey back and, reportedly, no players from either side commented.
The debate was:
Should Waller and Broadwater have done "the decent thing" and let Lacey carry on batting? Or was it a freak piece of bad luck that just happens in sport?
19% voted NO, Broadwater should not have called back the batsman: it was just tough luck on him.
But 81% voted YES, they should have called him back because it was a pretty unfair and hollow dismissal.
There were 36 votes cast.
