WORTHING moved comfortably out of the blocks in the FA Cup today, banked £1,500 in prize money and booked a home tie against Ryman Premier team Margate in a fortnight's time, on September 13.
Ben Andrews satisfied himself with two goals today (August 30) and allowed Jamie Brotherton to take the other one he could have claimed.

The skipper and leading scorer the past two seasons, and already this, conceded that Brotherton had got in his close-range final kick into the net before Andrews' own far-post header had crossed the line. That was on the half-hour, following a Chris O'Flaherty free kick.

And Worthing scored within the following minute. Brotherton moved in from the right flank and squared the ball to Andrews by way of thanks, and the lone striker on this occasion in the line-up belted in his first goal of the game.

That made it 3-0 to Rebels. They had taken a 14th-minute lead. Brotherton had taken a pass from Paul Elliott in the 14th minute, cut inside and put in a shot that keeper Justin Gray parried. Scott Kirkwood was there to sweep home his second goal of the season, from 10 yards.

And five minutes from half-time, a contest by now effectively over was sunk undergound by Andrews' sixth goal of the new campaign. This time it was he who had to make a case as the score became 4-0. O'Flaherty delivered a free kick from 40 yards out and, while it appeared to elude all the players, Big Ben claimed a vital touch.

New Worthing keeper Alan Mansfield was spared onerous duties until the 49th minute, when Camberley managed a shot at goal, but straight at him. And 10 minutes later, Worthing were adding to their tally against a team unbeaten on six Combined Counties League matches but with four draws.

Right-back Enzo Benn produced a bouncing bomb across the penalty area, Brotherton was among a number of players who jumped and missed it, but not substitute Mickey Demetriou. Just seven minutes into his first appearance of the season, The Sussex youth team star last season headed home his maiden first-team goal since graduation from captaining the youth team.

And Demetriou had a hand in the final goal. Out on the left, he played in young striker Paul Elliott, now operating in place of Andrews, who turned and fired home his first Worthing goal since arriving from a County League start with Southwick and Wick.

That made five different scorers, 74 minutes had gone, and three minutes later Worthing could yet have improved on the score last time they were at Camberley.

It had been 6-0 in a 1982 Isthmian League match, with a hat-trick by all-time Woodside great, Micky Edmonds (it was 7-0 later at Woodside that season, Edmonds hit three more, and Worthing won Division 2).

The man who could have made it seven was another sub, Mark Pulling. Jorge Lopes set him up through the middle, one-on-one, Pulling-on-Gray, the midfielder took his time and made his placement, only for the ball to bounce off the far post and elude the incoming Demetriou.

WORTHING: Mansfield; Benn, Douglas, Alexander, O'Flaherty; Elliott, Akehurst, Brotherton, Kirkwood, Lopes; Andrews. Subs: Axten (Alexander (HT), Demetriou (Andrews 52), Pulling (Brotherton 60), Kennett, Pook (with slight injuries). Att: 131.
