A THIEF tried to steal a charity collection box from a chemist in Broadwater.
Just before 5pm last Wednesday, a man walked into the shop in Broadwater Street East and ask for a prescription.

As the shop assistant turned her back, the man cut the chain securing the charity box to the counter.

The assistant turned around to check the spelling of the man's name as he started walking out of the shop.

He was asked to put the box down and did so before leaving the shop on a bike and heading off towards the town centre.

He is described as about 5ft 7in tall, aged in his late 20s and of medium build.

He was wearing a black Puffa jacket and white jeans.

His head was shaven and he had a scar on his nose and a tattoo on his neck.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 0845 6070 999.
