SUNDAY will be the last trading day for Tesco's ageing West Durrington supermarket - three weeks before the company opens its giant Tesco Extra next to the present site.
Opening day for the new outlet will be Thursday, February 25, and from 8am, shoppers are promised a whole new shopping experience.
New departments will include a pharmacy, opticians, bike shop, phone shop, plus improved sections for clothing and electricals.
Some of the businesses which have operated from shops next to the present store will be moving onto the new complex.
This could include the recently closed Marie Curie Cancer charity shop, which Tesco said this week has now been offered a unit.
24-hour alcoholA new community centre will also be part of the Tesco Extra development.
The new store will be open 24 hours a day, and among the more controversial aspects of the new store is the granting of a licence to sell alcohol round the clock.
Worthing licensing councillors gave the go-ahead for 24-hour alcohol sales, subject to several conditions.
These include that a personal licence holder must be on-site at all times the store is open, and there must be CCTV cameras covering all areas where alcohol is kept and sold. And the CCTV records must be retained for not less than 28 days.
Sussex Police did not object to the licence application, but they insisted that several measures be introduced to prevent public nuisance and to protect children from harm.
