DRIVERS are being warned not to park in a "free parking area" because they are now likely to be clamped.
Shoppers have been parking for more than a decade in Meadow Lane, Lancing, a small track near Lloyds TSB bank off North Road.

But now the owner of the private track, who lives at the end of the lane, has contracted a clamping firm, put up warning signs and is charging people a minimum of £120 to remove the clamps.

Karen Rance, who had her car clamped there last week, spent Thursday (July 10) and Friday (July 11) warning other drivers.

Overnight

She said: "In the first two hours I was there I must have saved people about £600 by warning them because none of them had seen the signs.

"It's not so much the fact it is happening.

"It is the way it is happening.

"It just happened overnight and the signs that are up are not very big.

"People have been parking here for years as there was never anything to say it was private."

Arguments

As the land is private, the clamping company, Parking Control Management said it does not have any obligation to give any period of grace.

The man who introduced the clamping, who is known as Vic, said: "It is private land and they've been blocking my driveway for years.

"I have arguments, verbal abuse and been spat at.

"I have even had to call the police a few times.

"So I said 'enough is enough' and did this."

What do you think?

How frustrated are you by drivers parking across your drive?

Would you employ clampers?
