A GIRL band have proved they're not "just those girls" after making it through to the later stages of The X Factor 2008.
Just Those Girls, made up of five girls from Worthing and East Preston, decided to go to the London auditions for the ITV1 hit show back in May for fun..

They never expecting to get the chance to sing in front of the judges, including Simon Cowell, and then make it through to the later stages of the contest.

Vickie Hampson, 21, of Durrington, said: "We all had the day off and decided to go to London to have a go, but didn't think we would get to sing in front of the judges.

"When they said we had got through, we were so excited."

In front of the judges

Vickie, along with her sister Grace, 20, of Durrington, Marina Polito, 18, of Goring, Helene Ridley, 18, of East Preston, and Lucy Roberts, 20, of Durrington, put on a great performance for judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole.

Vickie, a dance teacher for Glendale Theatre Arts in Penfold Road, Broadwater, said: "They were exactly as they are on television.

"Dannii and Cheryl were gorgeous and there was rivalry between Simon and Louis.

"They were very nice and not as nasty as they come across on the television.

"Cheryl said we were the strongest vocally she had seen at the London auditions."

The next stage

The girls appeared on TV on Saturday (August 31) and successfully got through to the next round.

Just Those Girls also have their sights set on being crowned Idol 2008 in a south east talent show.

They have made it through to the regional finals, to be held on September 27 at The Hove Centre.

If they win a place in November's grand final, not only will they be in with a chance of being crowned the UK's Idol 2008, they will perform in front of a live audience and could win a recording contract and £25,000-worth of prizes.

They're hopeful

Vickie said: "We auditioned for Idol 2008 after X Factor.

"We didn't want to get our hopes up, so just thought of it as another audition and never thought we would get through.

"We have learned how quickly you can get your hopes up, and then it is taken away."

  • Singing hopeful Harry Ellett, 23, of Chapel Road, Worthing, has also made it through to the finals of Idol 2008 at Hove.
