IT is thought a man who conned a woman into letting him into her home was a would-be distraction burglar.
The man told the 66-year-old he needed to turn off her water supply, and she let him inside her home in Harrison Road, Worthing, at approximately 4pm on Saturday, October 11.

He began "tinkering" with her kitchen taps, but made off on foot when the woman came in to challenge him.

It is not thought anything was stolen but police are describing the incident as an attempted distraction burglary.

The suspect is described as white, 30 to 35 years old, 5ft 8in to 5ft 10in tall, of stocky build, with fairly short straw-coloured hair which was spiked up on top with short side burns.

He was clean shaven and the victim described him as having a healthy complexion. He was wearing a black, silky bomber-style jacket and jeans.

Detective Sergeant Colin O'Hare, of Worthing CID, said: "Everyone in the community has a responsibility to help protect vulnerable people and we would urge anyone with information regarding people who are committing this type of offence to contact the police or Crimestoppers."

Police believe it may be linked with a similar incident in Hove on the same day.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Worthing CID on 0845 60 70 999 quoting reference number 1371, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
