A MYSTERY donor has come forward to pay for an operation for Lloyd the dog.
In recent weeks the Worthing Herald has reported on the sad story of Lloyd, a rottweiler who needed an expensive operation on his back left leg joint which his Worthing owner was unable to pay for.

Paul Webb, 50, of Newland Road, contacted the paper in a last-ditch attempt to save his two-year-old dog who was going to be put down if he could not have the operation.

Read the first story Worthing man's bid to save his dog and the second tale Harsh lesson for Worthing pet owners.

But now a knight in shining armour has said he will pay for the operation - costing nearly £3,000.

Operation paid for

Paul said: "I was totally shocked. You do not know if this is a hoax but it is definitely not.

"The vet phoned and said the money was in Lloyd's account.

"It has worked out like a fairy tale - I am just over the moon with it."

Public support

The gentleman contacted Paul directly to say he had inherited money and was able to pay the money straight to a Worthing veterinary surgery who agreed to carry out the procedure.

Paul said he has been amazed at the response he has received from people.

Waves, a hair salon in East Preston, clubbed together to buy a bed for Lloyd while officers at Worthing Borough Council organised a collection.

Find out how Lloyd's operation went in the Thursday, February 11 edition of the Worthing Herald.

This is OUTRAGEOUS.

I know for a fact that Mr Webb has pocketed a HUGE amount of the donations froim so many kind and generous people.

I work for his previous vets 'Companion Care' and you all need to know that Mr Webb has committed huge insurance fraud. He owes so much money - HE NEVER HAD INSURANCE. HE LIED. He has conned you all.

WOrthing Herald clearly never corroborated their story in the first place. This is so disgusting. There are so many decent and honest pet owners out there who know how rough it is and this is such a betrayal of their kindness.

I also like that the operation actually costed £3000, suspcious when in your previous report Northdale said they were only going to charge 800? I think you all need to be investigated and Mr Webb needs to be prosecuted.

Hear hear! I was wondering if anyone would comment on the accuracy of this story, as certain parts of it seem not to add up at all. If Mr Lloyd's insurance company were really as bad as he states, he could have taken them to the ombudsman instead of taking members of the public for fools. It is very sad that people's generosity has been abused in this way and that well meaning members of the public have been misled. The Herald should do another story and this time do a little of research instead of going for an attention grabbing headline with scant regard to the facts. It seems to me that Mr Webb is an irressponsible owner. Having a pet involves so much more than sad photos in the paper.
