TRAGICALLY paralysed teenager Lauren Jones has continued to amaze family and friends with her positive attitude.
Last week, the Herald reported how the gifted 13-year-old footballer broke her back when she fell from a tree and was told she would never walk again.

But despite suffering a setback on Monday, June 29, when she learned she would need a second operation, Lauren has kept strong and is looking forward to playing sports again.

Amazing

Her dad, Mike, of Offington Drive, Worthing, said: "She has continued to improve – she has been amazing.

"We have taken her to the hospital café in a wheelchair to get a drink, which is great for us."

Now, a fund has been set up in Lauren's name to raise money to buy two wheelchairs for her – one for everyday use and one for sports.

It is estimated they will cost £17,000, but Teresa Latham, who is managing the Lauren Jones Foundation Fund for the family, is hopeful they will reach that target.

Active child

She said: "Lauren is the most active child I have ever met.

"She was always playing football or riding her bike, so we want to get these chairs sorted so she can play sports again.

"She has been absolutely brilliant.

"Even when she learned about the second operation, she just took it on the chin and got on with it.

"It would be great if as many people could donate as possible."

Teresa said Lauren was desperate to get back to Durrington High School, where she is in year nine, although it is likely to be November at the earliest before she returns.

Lauren's fund

The fund is being managed by Teresa, along with another family friend, Ian MacGregor. To donate money, send a cheque, payable to the Lauren Jones Foundation Fund, to 3 Warren Road, Worthing, BN14 9QH.
