CRIME FILE: Thieves target Worthing elderly – with map

RETIREMENT flats have been burgled and an elderly man robbed in distraction burglaries.
Police hope someone may be able to help the investigations into these and other crimes in Worthing this week.

Retiremant flats burgled

SIX retirement flats in Goring Road, Goring, were burgled on Friday (February 29).

Police say the burglars entered the block of flats through a secure main entrance door before entering six properties and stealing items including cash, wallets and credit cards.

The thefts are thought to have happened between 10.30am and 5pm and a male suspect was seen acting suspiciously.

He is described as white, aged around 30, 6ft 2in tall, of slim build, with ginger or fair hair. He was wearing blue jeans, a dark top and white trainers.

Chat led to robbery

AN elderly man was robbed by two European women who distracted him in Worthing.

The man, who was using a walking frame, had just withdrawn £200 from a cash point in Chapel Road and was walking southwards when he was stopped by a woman.

The woman asked him about a sign in the window of a nearby shop. As he read out the sign, he was approached by another woman from behind.

Sergeant Ian Kerr, from Worthing police, said: "The man started to have a conversation with the women, but when he asked where they came from they walked away."

The man then went to a coffee shop where he realised his wallet had been stolen from his shoulder bag.

Police are keen to hear from any witnesses to the incident, which happened at just after 1.30pm on Wednesday, February 20.

The women are both described as 5ft 6in tall, with dark European complexions, dark brown hair and foreign accents.

Van vandalised at Vine

A VAN parked at a pub in Tarring was scratched down one side.

The VW Touran van was damaged while parked at the Vine pub, in Tarring High Street, on Monday night (March 3).

On the same night, a Fiat was broken into in Bellview Road, Tarring. A sat nav and CD player were stolen.

Pepper spray attack

A MAN was targeted with pepper spray by a group of six people as he walked through Worthing.

The man was walking along Crescent Road, on Friday night (February 29), when he was approached by the group of four men and two women.

One of the men is thought to have had a kitchen knife.

The victim was pepper sprayed in the face with a chemical that irritates the eyes and can cause temporary blindness.

The group made off on foot towards the town centre.

Multiple thefts in Tarring

POLICE are linking four thefts from vehicles in Tarring, which happened on Sunday night (March 2).

Two vans were broken into in Terringes Avenue and had power tools stolen.

A 4 x 4 was broken into in Church Road and had a motorbike exhaust, which was being stored inside, stolen.

A sat nav was stolen from a car in St Andrew's Road.

Attempted burglary at burger bar

POLICE arrested a man who allegedly attempted to burgle a burger bar.

Ace Burgers, in South Street, Tarring, had the rear of its premises attacked at around 3.30am on Monday (March 3).

Police were called and searched the area.

They found and arrested a man on suspicion of attempted burglary and going equipped to steal.
