Andy Irvine gig in Emsworth

Promoter Mark Ringwood said: “Just look at his musical history, which spans some four decades, and it’s a justifiable claim.

“In the 1960s he was an essential member of the pioneering folk group Sweeney’s Men. He spent most of the 1970s in the star-studded band Plenty alongside Christy Moore, and Donal Lunny. After that it was a trail of great bands and musicians including De Danaan, Paul Brady, Mick Hanly and Patrick Street with whom he played all over the world before setting out on his own solo career.

“Not only is Andy a great singer and songwriter, but his skills playing bouzouki, mandola, Harmonica and mandolin have earned him awards and titles during an illustrious career. Add his warm, engaging personal skills onstage, and it’s obvious why his concerts are so deservedly popular.”

On Wednesday, April 29 WemsFest have invited him to play The Hewitt’s @ in South Street, Emsworth. Tickets are £12.50 available from Harbour Records (Emsworth), and the concert starts at 8pm.
