Award-winning artist Grayson Perry comes to Worthing
The Turner Prize-winning artist, Grayson Perry, will appear in Worthing on Wednesday (November 9) to perform his new show at the Pavilion Theatre.
His one-off UK live theatre tour, ‘Typical Man in a Dress’, accompanies the release of his new book, ‘The Descent of Man’.
Taking place over five dates in November, he promises to treat audiences to ‘an intelligent evening of laughs, discussion, insight and costume changes’.
What is masculinity and what can it become? – Perry returns to explore the subject that dominated his Channel 4 series ‘All Man’, which aired in May, live before the audience.
Born in Chelmsford in 1960, Perry works in a variety of media, including embroidery and photography, yet is best known for his ceramic works – classically shaped vases covered with figures, patterns and text.
He became famous as the first ceramic artist to win the Turner Prize in 2003 and was awarded a CBE in 2014.
Alongside his art, Grayson has starred in documentaries including ‘Why Men Wear Frocks’, in which he examined transvestism and masculinity in the 21st century, ‘Who Are You?’ Which led to the accompanying artwork from the series being housed in the National Portrait Gallery and ‘All in the Best Possible Taste with Grayson Perry’ for which he received a BAFTA for Specialist Factional Television. His new book ‘The Descent of Man’ was released on Thursday, October 27 by Particular Books.
