CLASSICAL MUSIC: Worthing Philharmonic Choir music from the Czech Republic

WORTHING Philharmonic Choir presents a concert of music from the Czech Republic as a pre-Christmas treat at Worthing

Baptist Church, Christchurch Road, Worthing, on Saturday, November 27 at 7.30pm.

Antonin Dvorák (1841-1904) is familiar to many for his New World Symphony (inspired by his journey to America) and for two sets of home-grown Slavonic Dances, amongst many other works.

His Mass in D is less well known. It will be featured in the concert.

Leoš Janácek (1854-1928) is better known for his operas The Cunning Little Vixen, Jenufa and his orchestral Sinfonietta, but again, much less so for his very individual setting of the Lord’s Prayer.

The choir will perform the piece in its original language.

Both works have been chosen by the Choir’s choral director, Steve Dummer. The choir welcome his predecessor Donovan

Brown as organ accompanist and also as soloist in Janácek’s dramatic and virtuosic Chorale Fantasia.
