Called Chasing Your Dream, it sums up exactly what David will be doing this year.

He is hoping to put together a tour to promote the new recording.

“I would like to go to cities and to places that I have never been before, even if it is just an open mic session in Birmingham or wherever.

“It’s the principle that you are on tour, and you are going somewhere else just to build up some sort of following and find a fan base to support the EP.”

David is currently in consultation with a tour manager; a good friend is acting as his manager; and he has got strong family support back home in Surrey.

David, aged 20, is currently in his second-year at the University of Chichester where he is studying community sports coaching – a course he is enjoying as he reaches the mid-point of his time in Chichester

The city is proving a great place to build on his song-writing skills which already go back quite some time.

As David recalls: “I just started writing songs when I was 12 or 13. I had lessons on the piano at an early age, and I realised what I wanted to do was play covers, and then I realised that I wanted to write my own stuff with lyrics.

“I wrote about girls and relationships. That was school years 10 and 11 and after GCSEs.”

Three years ago, he brought out his first EP called Every Day Hope Will Grow, featuring five songs. The basis is David and his keyboard, very much his instrument of choice – though he is currently learning the guitar.

Heroes include Chris Martin from Coldplay, a big influence – but also Ross Copperman and Gavin DeGraw, among others.

David’s new EP also features five tracks and, three years on from the first, he hopes it shows his increasing maturity.

“I have grown up a bit. My song-writing has developed. I think I am just more mature.

“I think I am more aware of other artists and other things going on around socially and professionally. “

Another enouraging development has been a change in the nature of his song-writing.

“Before, on my first EP, there was a song I Want You Back, a cheesy, girl song, but now there is a track called Smile which looks deeper at it all, about just wanting to see you smile. It is still cheesy, but in a more adult way, I hope!”

David admits it is a struggle balancing the music and the university studies, with the two areas seeming to take over his life. Also there is the little problem of wanting to practise his guitar when there is an essay to be written.

But David is hoping that with the new EP and also the tour plans for this year, the breakthrough won’t be so very far away...
