FILM: Jack Reacher (12A)

The US premiere of this explosive action thriller, based on the book One Shot by Lee Child, has been postponed in the wake of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary.

However, this first chapter of a potential new franchise is still set for release on both sides of the Atlantic around Christmas, written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, who won an Oscar for The Usual Suspects.

Tom Cruise plays former Army officer Jack Reacher, who disappeared off the grid months ago and is now a ghost to his own government.

However, Rodin’s daughter, defence attorney Helen Rodin (Rosamund Pike), isn’t so sure and she hires Jack to probe the forensics and discover if she is representing a guilty man.

As Jack follows the chain of evidence, he falls foul of criminal mastermind The Zec (Werner Herzog) and his sharp-shooting henchman (Jai Courtney), who are killing witnesses to ensure the truth about the shooting never comes to light.
