FILM: Oscar-winning The King’s Speech extended run in Worthing

WORTHING Theatres is hoping this week’s Oscars triumph for The King’s Speech will spark another big boost for the film’s blockbusting run at the Connaught.

More than 14,000 people have so far seen the picture in Worthing, and its run has again been extended, to March 17.

Theatres manager Peter Bailey told the Herald: “There was a surge in audiences after the BAFTA awards last month, and now we are hoping that the Oscars’ success will produce a similar result.

“It is the second-highest film ever as regards audience numbers – we haven’t done so well since we screened Mama Mia! in 2008, which attracted some 22,000 people.

“But I don’t think that the King’s Speech will beat that figure.”

Colin Firth’s Oscar-winning portrayal of the stammering King George VI has so far helped to gross more than £75,000 for the Connaught cinema’s coffers.
